The Barnegat Light Museum is housed in Barnegat Light's former one-room schoolhouse. The original school was established in 1902 and served the town for almost 50 years, teaching the "three R's" to the children of the northern end of Long Beach Island until 1951. In 1954, on our Borough's 50th year, the schoolhouse was dedicated as the town's museum.

This unique small museum stands in the shadow of the Barnegat Lighthouse, the second oldest lighthouse on the Northeastern seaboard.  Not only is the old school building an interesting example of period architecture, it also contains a remarkable varied array of exhibits relating to the history of the town, the fishing industry and Long Beach Island—including being the home of the Lighthouse's original first-order lens.

Come visit Barnegat Light! Climb the Lighthouse and view the world of today in a spectacular panoramic scene. Then visit our museum and step back into the slower paced but wonderful world of yesterday. We guarantee your experience will be memorable.
